Alberta Education Minister David Eggen has met in Edmonton with Catholic bishops who have criticized his proposed policy for treating transgender students in schools. Bishop Fred Henry of Calgary has called Eggen's plan totalitarian and anti-Catholic. Eggen says Henry was at the meeting.< (Eggen also met with Edmonton Archbishop Richard Smith and Bishop Paul Terrio of St. Paul. All three have taken issue with new rules for schools that would give transgender students more input into how they are treated in a way that respects their sexual identity.)
