The Manitoba NDP is accusing the Opposition Progressive Conservatives of trying to Americanize the province's political system. Tory Leader Brian Pallister has left the door open to raising the maximum amount people can donate to political parties if he becomes premier. Health Minister Sharon Blady says that would allow wealthy people to influence elections, similar to what is seen in the United States. (Manitoba has a cap of three-thousand dollars per year on what individuals can donate. It is among the lowest in Canada -- the NDP government in Alberta has a cap of 15-thousand dollars.)
