A doctor affiliated with a Catholic hospital in Comox, B-C, is speaking out against the facility's likely ban on assisted death. Dr. Jonathan Reggler says St. Joseph's General Hospital is the only hospital in the small community and patients who want help to die will be denied that right or be forced to travel 50 kilometres to the nearest hospital. (Reggler is calling on the government to require all publicly-funded hospitals and hospices to provide assisted death when it tables new legislation this spring.)
