There was another indicator last night of just how hard Canada's oil and gas industry has been hit by the economic downturn. The annual chuckwagon canvas auction at the Calgary Stampede allows companies to bid to have their logo carried on the wagons at the Stampede rodeo. The amount last night was down 480-thousand dollars over last year. Two-time defending champion Kurt Bensmiller had the highest bid at 120-thousand dollars but it was much lower than last year. (Last night's total was the lowest since the last downturn in 2010.)
