A large fire at a fish plant has forced out hundreds of people in a small community in eastern Newfoundland. Bay de Verde Mayor Gerard Murphy says police and fire officials are helping most of the 400 residents leave the area. He says he was alerted to the fire at the Quinlan Brothers plant at about six this morning. (Murphy says the fire at the 50-year-old plant could be a devastating blow to the area, with the possible loss of 700 seasonal jobs. RCMP say there are no reports of injuries.)
