Federal MP's held an emergency debate in the Commons Tuesday night to discuss the suicide crisis that has gripped the aboriginal community of Attawapiskat (att-uh-WAH'-piss-kat) in northern Ontario. Manitoba New Democrat Niki Ashton told the House this crisis didn't just happen overnight. (Attawapiskat's leaders declared a state of emergency on Saturday, citing 11 suicide attempts so far in April and 28 in March. Health Minister Jane Philpott said the government must -- and will -- respond to the crisis.)
