Simon Fraser University researchers are working with Paralympic skier Danny Letain to design a bionic hand that allows a more intuitive experience for amputees. Letain will put SFU's design to the test in October at the inaugural "Cyborg Olympics" in Switzerland, where he'll compete in an obstacle course against other people wearing robotic arms. (Letain says he uses the remaining muscles in his amputated arm to move the bionic hand, allowing him to actually feel as though his own fingers are moving.)
