Lawyers for former students of residential schools in Newfoundland and Labrador have reached a proposed 50-million dollar compensation deal with the federal government. The offer affects about 800 class-action members alleging abuse along with cultural losses. Plaintiffs' lawyer Steven Cooper says more than 100 class members died waiting for a deal. (A judge will hear any objections to the proposed settlement in September before deciding whether to approve it.)
