A new study says more children than ever are being sexually exploited in the travel and tourism sector in Canada and around the world. It says that while Canada and United States were once considered source countries for offenders, they are increasingly becoming destinations as well. Ernie Allen of ECPAT international says traffickers often focus on sporting events, business conferences, and transport hubs to advertise to travellers who may not have come with the intent of buying sex. (The study points to the huge rise in international travel and the use of the Internet as a marketing tool as the main reasons for the increase.)
