A post-mortem on last year's election loss at the Conservative convention in Vancouver turned emotional as a Muslim member of the party found herself debating members of the crowd. Urz Heer said the Conservative campaign was a disaster and said it unfairly targeted her community. Party executive Dustin Van Vugt suggested part of the problem was the party relied on the same approach it used successfully in previous campaigns. (Heer, a Toronto-area Conservative, pointed to the party's support for a ban on wearing face veils during citizenship ceremonies and a proposal for a tip line on quote "barbaric cultural practices" as two examples of who the Muslim community was unfairly singled out.)
