A new survey has found all three North American countries are failing to protect their ocean ecosystems. Sabine Jessen of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society says creating more marine protected areas would benefit both the oceans and those who depend on them. (Although Canada, Mexico and the US have all promised to protect 10 per cent of their waters, the survey found that less than one per cent come under a permanent, established reserve.)
