A conference in Winnipeg has been told true reconciliation between indigenous and non-aboriginals in Canada will require years of effort. The Pathways To Reconciliation conference is being held one year after the Truth and Reconciliation Commission issued its report on the effects of the residential school system. Chief Robert Joseph, a hereditary chief from British Columbia, says the message has yet to get through to everyone. (Joseph says he is encouraged, however, because awareness is growing and governments are beginning to take action.)
