The latest government tests suggest the Fort McMurray wildfires didn't contaminate soils in the burned-over neighourhoods. Jessica Lucenko of Alberta Environment says officials had been concerned that high levels of toxins in the ash would find their way into the earth. (The tests found only isolated spots where hydrocarbons are above levels that would be expected to cause environmental damage. All were below levels that would affect human health.)
