Heavy rain from a widespread low pressure system has caused significant flooding north and west of Edmonton. In the town of Westlock, a major downpour last evening flooded downtown businesses and residential basements in outlying neighbourhoods. Adrienne Rimmer, duty manager at the Westlock Inn, told The Canadian Press shortly after the storm that water was up to their doors and the parking lot was flooded. (The Alberta government issued an emergency alert for Westlock last night, but it was cancelled overnight when the water started to recede. Environment Canada had issued a rainfall warning for the area, saying total amounts could be 50 to 75 millimetres by this morning.)
