An Alberta legislature committee tasked with improving ethics in politics has become mired in a scandal over alleged backroom dealmaking by its chair. NDP member Jessica Littlewood is supposed to an impartial arbiter, but is instead being accused by the Progressive Conservatives of making phone calls to try broker deals on issues. Littlewood temporarily stepped down as chair but tells reporters she plans to take it back. (Opposition members say Littlewood's decision to intervene behind the scenes taints the intergrity of the entire committee process.)
