The Toronto Maple Leafs scored their first win of the season in topping the Boston Bruins 4-1. Prior to the game the club retired the sweater numbers of 17 players, reversing a longstanding team policy. James van Riemsdyk, who scored in the home-opening victory, was the only current Leaf to need a new number. He says he had no issue with switching to No. 25, with his No. 21 retired for Borje (BOR-YAH) Salming.
