A lawyer for Dennis Oland is making arguments in the Supreme Court of Canada over whether convicted killers should be granted bail. The hearing stems from Oland's bid for bail after he appealed his second-degree murder conviction last December in the beating death of his father Richard Oland in 2011. Alan Gold is representing Oland and says the high court is suited to clear up confusion around the issue of release. (No one in New Brunswick has ever been granted bail after being convicted of murder, and there have only been about three dozen such cases in Canada. Oland is now out on bail after his conviction was overturned.)
