Montana's governor is being asked to consider a petition for clemency for a Canadian man who's been on death row in the US for more than three decades. The previous governor elected not to deal with the petition on behalf of Alberta's Ron Smith. Smith says now that the Canadian government is promising to act on any Canadian facing the death penalty, it's a good time for it to go ahead. (All executions in Montana have been on hold since legal action against the method of execution was successfully launched in 2008.)
