A Manitoba New Democrat is resigning his seat in the legislature. Kevin Chief says he is leaving politics to spend more time with his family. The former cabinet minister says the decision is not related to challenges the New Democrats have faced since losing power in the election last April. (When the NDP was defeated, Chief easily retained his seat and won the highest vote percentage of any New Democrat. The vacancy means a byelection in the Point Douglas constituency in Winnipeg must be held within six months.)
