Two British Columbia schools have temporarily shut down in-person classes days after the province's schools reopened following an extended holiday break due to the highly transmissible COVID-19 Omicron (OH'-mih-kron) variant. Education Minister Jennifer Whiteside says local school administration officials, including principals, are involved in decisions to temporarily halt classes, but the overriding priority is to keep students safely in classroom settings. (The Education Ministry says the two schools currently in functional closure are Hazelton Secondary School in northwest BC and Surrey's independent Bibleway Christian Academy.)
