The Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police is working with the convenience store industry in the province to call on the provincial government to help curb gas thefts at the pump. The association has heard from industry members about a concerning increase in thefts as gas prices continue to rise. Joe Couto, with the association, would like the province to implement new legislation that requires people to prepay at the pump. (Similar protocols are already in place in British Columbia and Alberta.)
