The 1980's saw the outbreak of AIDS. Jonathan Mann, head of the World Heath Organization's program on AIDS, warned in the past year the epidemic had not yet peaked, and would continue to rise in the early 1990s. Mann told an AIDS conference in Montreal in June that the number of reported AIDS cases would more than double within the next three years.
