Prime Minister Stephen Harper formally announced an agreement in principle with Michigan to build a new bridge linking Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit. Harper said the one-billion-dollar link over the Detroit River was needed to help congestion on the existing Ambassador Bridge. He said it would create jobs and boost trade with Canada's biggest trading partner. (The owner of the privately-held Ambassador bridge had been fighting the new link. Harper told a Windsor audience that whatever battles lie ahead, the new bridge is going to be built.)
