An Ontario judge ruled that the family of an 11-year-old aboriginal girl with cancer had a constitutional right to opt for traditional medicine over chemotherapy in what some observers called a landmark decision. A hospital that had been treating the First Nations girl sought to have the child apprehended and placed back into chemotherapy after her mother had pulled her out of the treatment earlier in the year. New Credit First Nation Chief Bryan Laforme said the ruling had major implications.
