Former Ottawa Citizen publisher Russell Mills said he was fired after running afoul of CanWest Global editorial policies. Mills claimed CanWest was upset he had not cleared an editorial calling on Jean Chretien to retire. NDP leader Alexa McDonough called for an inquiry into Mills' firing.
