Valery Fabrikant was convicted and sent to prison for life for murdering four professors at Concordia University in 1992. He conducted his own defense throughout much of the lengthy trial, and was cited for contempt at least once by the judge, who called Fabrikant a warped, twisted and deeply troubled man. Afterwards Crown prosecutor Jean Lecours (luh-COOR') said Fabrikant never seemed to understand the gravity of his crime.
