Top Montreal crime reporter Michel Auger (oh'-zhay) was shot five times on Sept. 13 outside the French-language Le Journal De Montreal, where he worked. The shooting came one day after the newspaper published a two-page article by Auger about recent biker-related murders. His editor-in-chief Paule Beaugrand-Champagne (POHL' Boh-GRAWN' Sham-PANG') called the attack disgusting and an attack on democracy.
