There was shock, anger, and disgust in the small Saskatchewan community of Martensville after allegations that police and daycare workers abused 30 children from 17 families. Police chief Mike Johnston told a news conference on June 5 that four current and former police officers and three members of a family-owned daycare had been charged with various offences. (The number of accused eventually rose to nine and the charged were consolidated, dropping to 128.)
