A police dragnet was thrown up across Cape Breton after four McDonald's restaurant employees were shot during a robbery. RCMP Constable Dave Roper said they believed the person or persons responsible gained access to the closed restaurant through the back door. (One of the injured women died the next day in hospital -- another remained in critical condition for weeks. Arleen MacNeil was moved to a rehabilitation center in late September. A week after the shootings, three suspects were arrested and charged with first-degree murder, robbery and unlawful confinement.)
