The final legal battle in the offshore boundary dispute between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland began in November. Energy companies were anxious to explore the ocean floor. Newfoundland lawyer Donald McRae said the line must be determined by international law and geography, not potential wealth. (Nova Scotia wanted the line kept where it was drawn in 1964, roughly half way between the two provinces.)
