On October 27th, a Hail Mary attempt by outgoing scandal-plagued incumbent Rob Ford to pass the torch to his older brother Doug failed when businessman and former provincial politician John Tory won Toronto's mayoral election. Ford praised his brother for running a good campaign on short notice when he pulled out of the race after being diagnosed with cancer -- and he told cheering supporters the Fords would be back in the next municipal election in four years. (Rob Ford was easily elected as a councilor in his old west-end ward, taking close to 60 per cent of the votes cast.)
