Striking support workers claimed conditions at Toronto's Pearson Airport were unsafe while they were off the job. To back up the claim, their union produced a tape of a conversation between a pilot and a supervisor filling in for the striking ground workers. The union said the tape showed that two passenger jets narrowly missed running into each other while taxiing around the tarmcac. Transport Canada said the airport's operator, Greater Toronto Airports Authority, was meeting minimum safety standards during the strike.
