The Romanow report on the future of Canada's health system was tabled November 28th in the Commons. Roy Romanow recommended a 15 billion dollar cash infusion by 2006 for a sweeping expansion of medicare that would stop the growth of private medicine. Romanow said Canada already spends 100 billion dollars a year on health care, but no one really knows if that money is used effectively. Romanow recommended the establishment of an intergovernmental health council to measure performance, report on accessibility and quality and assess new technology in the health system.
