In an unprecedented move, the people of Rouyn-Noranda went on strike to protest provincial government policy. Schools, commerce and industry shut down on June 2 to protest what they said was political favoritism. Rouyn-Noranda was represented by the Parti-Quebecols in the national assembly -- nearby Val d'Or by Liberal Albert Cote, the provincial forestry minister. The straw that broke the camel's back for many of the eight thousand people who demonstrated was the relocation of the regional conservation authority to Val d'Or. This is a montage of demonstrators.
