Preview Clip

Senators felt the public's fury in June. An ill-timed decision to raise tax-free expense allowances by six thousand dollars narrowly passed before the summer break. But the backlash was so fast and furious that senators were called back from their holidays to rescind it. Toronto Tory William Kelly was one of 26 senators who voted for the measure. (Senators got a 64-thousand dollar salary and $10,400 in tax-free allowances. The vote to increase the allowance passed 26-24. The vote to rescind it was 80-1.)
