Graphic evidence opened the Westray Mine manslaughter trial in Pictou, Nova Scotia. A 45-minute video included pictures of the remains of 15 men whose bodies had been recovered. Family members watched silently in the courtroom. Later Ken Teasdale of the Westray Families Group talked about the video. (Two mine managers, Gerald Phillips and Roger Parry, and the company, Curragh Incorporated, were charged with manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death. Twenty-six men were killed when an explosion ripped through the Westray coal mine in May 1992.)
